Goodreads Summary:
Wedding Day

Pretty, flighty Daisy Devreaux can either go to jail or marry the mystery man her father has chosen for her. Arranged marriages don't happen in the modern world, so how did the irrepressible Daisy find herself in this fix?

Alex Markov, as humorless as he is deadly handsome, has no intention of playing the loving bridegroom to a spoiled little feather-head with champagne tastes. He drags Daisy from her uptown life to a broken down traveling circus and sets out to tame her to his ways.

But this man without a soul has met his match in a woman who's nothing but heart. Before long, passion will send them flying sky high without a safety net... risking it all in search of a love that will last forever.

Review

Kiss an Angel was an impulse read when I saw the recommendation pop up. I'm pretty amazed it was released 20 years ago. I love the premise and once I started reading, I couldn't stop.

The circus setting was fun though there really wasn't much to it. It's the usual tricks and performances you normally hear about. The book focused on the characters and their relationships. It was informative seeing the story through the multiple POVs. I got to know and better understand all the important characters and their thoughts and actions.

Daisy is not the pampered Barbie doll everyone assumes she is. She's had her share of troubles and pains. She's actually tough as nail. I loved seeing her go up against Alex. Scars from his past inhibited his ability to love but Daisy was unafraid to tell him and show him her love for him. She's courageous and knows when and how to stand up for herself. Her connection with the menagerie animals was beautiful. She absolutely deserves their affection.

Alex is tough and firm in his beliefs. I really disliked the way he kept reminding Daisy he didn't love her. He couldn't. It felt like he was saying it for the sake of saying it. Despite that Alex also has a sweet and protective side. Even though he needed a little push, I thought his ultimate show of love for Daisy was perfect. We knew from the start how impossible it was for him to let go of his pride. The fact that he does it for her...if that's not love then I don't know what is.

I'm pretty satisfied with how the story wrapped up but I wish there was an Epilogue. Yes Alex and Daisy stayed together but I'm also pissed that her dad got his way. He completely manipulated the two of them. The stunt Amelia pulled with the birth control pills, it's sickening... Especially since their plan worked. But I guess it's alright since the baby will be loved?

Kiss an Angel was a mixture of sweet and agony but it was definitely hot and fun while the story lasted. The sexy and playful scenes had me grinning. I'm very happy with all the HEA endings! And I do mean "all" of them ;)

  1. Aw. I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips' novels! She writes a lot of adult romance. :) I haven't heard of this one, though.

  2. I read this years ago, and it's still one of the best hate-to-love romances I've ever read. Big fan of SEP!

  3. Woah, 20 years ago! You know, I was wondering why I'd not heard of SEP. Many of the ladies in the Avon Addicts group LOVE her/her books, but I'd never even heard of one of her books... I guess that's why. I'm 21. :D I'm not super into chicklit (much prefer adult romance) so I may check out some of her other books. I'm glad you enjoyed this one, Eileen! =)
